Original Equipment (OE) vs Aftermarket Parts

As a means of cutting costs in their claims settlements, some insurance companies have indicated the use of aftermarket, or imitation parts in their estimates. Despite attempts to certify these parts, and their manufacturers’ claims of equal quality to the original equipment, they have been proven inferior in the areas of fit, finish, and corrosion resistance. In fact, several states have outlawed insurance companies from requiring the use of imitation parts on vehicles less than 3 years old.

Furthermore, some factory warranties will be voided if imitation parts are installed on a car. In order to preserve the value of your vehicle and to prevent voiding of factory warranties, always insist on genuine factory parts.
